Recommended dual-core wire stripper

Honestly, anyone who has worked with twin-core sheathed cables knows—it looks simple, but it can be surprisingly frustrating.

The real challenge isn’t just stripping the cable, it’s stripping it *just right*. You’ve got an outer jacket tightly wrapped around two inner cores, sometimes with filler material or slight adhesion between layers. If your blade goes too deep, you risk damaging the inner insulation. Too shallow, and the outer jacket won’t come off cleanly. Softer materials like PVC make it even trickier—they tend to stretch and deform instead of cutting clean, which can really test your patience over time.

Then there’s consistency. When you’re doing it manually, maybe you get perfect results on a good day. But once things get busy—or someone else takes over—you start seeing uneven strip lengths, rough edges, and small variations that quickly turn into bigger issues during crimping or assembly. Anyone in wire harness production knows how these “small” inconsistencies can snowball.

So when it comes to choosing the right stripping machine for twin-core cables, I’d say stability matters more than raw speed. A good machine should have precise blade control, ideally allowing separate adjustments for the outer jacket and inner cores. Machines with a layered stripping approach are especially well-suited for this kind of cable—they can remove the outer sheath cleanly without touching the inner wires.

Another thing that really makes a difference is how the machine grips and feeds the cable. Twin-core wires can easily slip if they’re not held properly, and once that happens, your strip length is off or the inner cores get stretched. A machine with accurate clamping and synchronized feeding just feels more reliable—you spend less time readjusting and more time getting consistent results.

If I had to recommend a type, I’d lean toward a semi-automatic to fully automatic machine with programmable memory. When you’re switching between different cable specs, you don’t want to start from scratch every time. Being able to recall saved parameters makes a huge difference in both efficiency and repeatability.
