HSD Cable Stripping: Why Precision and Shielding Matter
HSD cables are actually wires that look rather delicate on the outside but are extremely fragile in practice. At first, people may think they are no different from ordinary wires, but once you actually start working with them, you quickly realize how different they really are.
Their internal structure is relatively complex. There is an outer jacket, with materials such as aluminum foil and braided shielding underneath, while insulation layers and conductors are arranged in multiple layers. The difficulty in stripping them is not that they cannot be stripped, but that they need to be stripped with just the right amount of precision. If you strip too deeply, you may damage the inner conductors; if you strip too little, the terminal cannot be properly installed afterward.
Two other particularly troublesome issues are precision and the shielding layer. With HSD cables, the stripping length is often only a few millimeters, so even a small deviation can lead to signal instability. The shielding layer, especially the braided shield, is even more challenging. Many standard machines cannot handle it properly, so the work has to be done manually, which naturally reduces efficiency.
That is why the equipment used to process this type of cable cannot be chosen casually. What you need is a machine capable of processing the cable layer by layer, rather than simply stripping everything at once. Ideally, it should also have a rotary stripping function, which helps prevent damage to the internal conductors. At the same time, the machine must maintain consistent accuracy and stability; otherwise, you may finish the job today only to find yourself reworking it tomorrow. If the braided shielding can also be processed automatically, that makes the entire operation much easier.
For ordinary wires, you can often get by with standard equipment. But for delicate cables like HSD, using the wrong equipment can lead to one problem after another, making the entire process frustrating and exhausting.
